This drawing was made by Egon Schiele in 1914. It shows a young blonde woman, probably Wally Neuzil, who was Schiele’s close companion and model for several years. She appears in many of his works and played an important role in his life—not just as a model, but also as someone who supported him during tough times.

In this picture, she wears green stockings that stand out and add a splash of color. Around this time, Schiele began drawing his figures with round, button-like eyes. These eyes made the people look a bit like puppets. This style also shows a small influence from Cubism, which was popular in modern art then. Schiele only used this button-eye style briefly—it disappeared from his work after 1914.
