Gustav Klimt:
Head of a Girl in frontal view (ca. 1898) – Mädchenkopf en face – Klimt
Oil on board.
size 38 by 34 cm
On loan from a private collection to the Belvedere
(Natter no. 107)
This distinctive face of a young girl/woman (some will say she looks older, but that’s the title) stands out and makes this portrait special, and beautiful to look at. In several years, between 1896-1898. more portraits were made by Klimt, but this frontal view stands out. It was in Ver Sacrum, the magazine of the Vienna Secession and there it was described as a sketch.
